TELEPHONE PLANT BOOSTING OUTPUT OF DEFENCE-RELATED PRODUCTS

SHADRINSK, Kurgan Region, March 14 (AVN) - The Shadrinsk telephone plant in south-western Siberia has shipped the first batch of equipment for specialised multi-channel long-range digital communication to the Russian Defence Ministry, a spokesman for the plant administration said on Wednesday.

The batch comprises racks for SSS1-8 service communication devices and generators, cable terminals and IVOK-TD2 integrated fibre optics systems of communication and data transmission, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. Production of this equipment started in Shadrino this year.

The plant is to supply another three batches of equipment to the Defence Ministry and other law-enforcement agencies this month. In general, it is expected to boost output of defence-related products 20 percent in 2001.

The Shadrino enterprise is Russia's largest producer of analogue and digital equipment for long-range multi-channel communication.
