15TH REGIMENT WITHDRAWING FROM CHECHNYA TO MOSCOW REGION

MOSCOW, March 20 (AVN) - The first train with two battalions of the 15th motorised rifle regiment left Chechnya on Tuesday to take servicemen to their permanent location in the Moscow region, a spokesman for the Moscow military district headquarters told the Military News Agency.

The 15th regiment commanded by Colonel Nadir Umud-ogly Guseinov, is with the 2nd Taman motorised rifle division. It was deployed in the North Caucasus on September 20, 1999, and took part in hostilities on the Tersky Ridge, drove rebels out of Lermontov-Yurt, Chernorechye, Dachu-Borzoi, Shatoi and other villages.

When situation in the southern Argun gorge worsened in April 2000, the regiment was sent there to augment the southern federal group. The regiment took a by-pass route via the Ingush autonomous republic to surprise the enemy appearing at Itum-Kale following a mountain march. The regiment has been engaged in combat missions in eastern Chechnya's Nozhai-Yurt piedmont.

The regiment has suffered 111 casualties in 1.5 years. As many as 599 of its servicemen were awarded medals and orders.
