POLICEMAN KILLED, 3 MORE WOUNDED IN MONDAY SHOOTOUT IN GROZNY

GROZNY, April 3 (AVN) - Officers of the temporary Interior department of Grozny's Leninsky district were attacked on Monday as they tried to detain a vehicle, a department spokesman told the Military News Agency.

A group of officers stopped a suspicious vehicle and were escorting it to the police department headquarters as passengers of the vehicle opened up on the policemen. As a result, one policeman was killed and three other wounded. The vehicle with rebels managed to escape.

There have been 11 attacks on federal positions in Grozny since Monday. Policemen seized 14kg of TNT, five 122 mm shells, 25 hand grenades, 2,742 ammo for assault rifles. A landmine was defused and 12 illegal oil refineries were destroyed.

Policemen checked 4,302 people, 189 houses and 2,519 vehicles, of which three were detained together with drivers.
