LAWMAKER PRAISES PUTIN'S ADDRESS TO PARLIAMENT

MOSCOW, April 3 (AVN) - A prominent lawmaker said on Tuesday President Vladimir Putin's address to the Federal Assembly (parliament) was the authorities' "first intelligible statement" concerning the aims that the state and society were facing and the ways to reach them.

Andrei Nikolayev, defence committee chairman of the State Duma lower house, said by making the address Putin finally rounded up the 10-year period of social and economic shocks in Russia and marked the beginning of a creative stage in the country.

The president made it clear that he understood "what kind of country we are living in, what resources we possess and what path of development Russia should choose," the lawmaker was quoted as saying by his administration.
