REBELS ATTACK FEDERAL POSITIONS, INSTALLATIONS 4 TIMES IN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, April 4 (AVN) - Chechen rebels have fired at federal positions and installations from small arms four times in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters in the North Caucasus told the Military News Agency on Wednesday.

No casualties were registered among federal servicemen, the spokesman said.

Federal units defused 11 landmines and confiscated an assault rifle, a hunting rifle, 11 F-1 hand grenades, two RGD-5 grenades, six 122mm artillery shells, 1.3kg of explosive substances and 7,493 small arms cartridges during search operations. They checked 4,977 people, 128 vehicles and 1,800 houses and detained seven suspected rebels.
