VOLGA REGION POLICEMEN CHARGED WITH POWER ABUSE

ULYANOVSK, Volga Region, April 4 (AVN) - Four officers of the Ulyanovsk region police section for combating illegal drug trafficking are charged for power abuse, a spokesman for the regional prosecutor's office told the Military News Agency on Wednesday.

Two policemen were arrested, two detained and currently the restrained is being considered, the spokesman said.

The policemen are charged with detaining and beating a 30 year old woman. They delivered her to the Zavolzhsky regional police office. Policemen forced her to sign a confession of committing a crime and freed her. The next day the woman filed a claim with the prosecutor's office. If found guilty, the policemen may be sentenced to 10 years in prison, the spokesman said. The investigation is led by the top importance cases department of the prosecutor's office.

The region's policemen have committed such crimes before. Recently the city court sentenced Senior Lieutenant Philipenko to three years and 10 months in prison for power abuse.
