VEDENO, Chechnya, April 4 (AVN) - Law-enforcers in Chechnya's Vedeno district have detained an accomplice of warlord Shamil Basayev near the Kharachoi village, a spokesman for the district's interim police department said on Wednesday.
The accomplice, Khalif Barshigov, was one of the three men without IDs detained by the police during search operations, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. He was identified several hours after the arrest. The police claim he took part in Basayev's raid on the town of Budyonnovsk in the Stavropol territory during the first Chechnya campaign.
The other two men are being identified, the spokesman said. They are suspected of involvement in rebel gangs too.
