LARGE-SCALE MOBILISATION TRAINING STARTS IN MOSCOW REGION

MOSCOW, April 4 (AVN) - A large-scale mobilisation training featuring recruitment of reservists and deployment of a combined arms unit has started in the Moscow region, a spokesman for the General Staff said on Wednesday.

Most reservists that have been summoned for the training will be allowed to go home having showed up at the registration points, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. About 1,000 reservists will be involved in the training until their completion. The aim of the war games is to check the degree of skills deterioration among retired servicemen and to test functioning of the reimbursement mechanism that is used by the federal budget to compensate expenses of the enterprises where the recruited reservists are working.

The term of the training will depend on the quality of reservists, but will not exceed 10 days, the spokesman said.

The first exercise of such scale was held in the post-Soviet Russia in October 2000. The General Staff practised manning of the motorised rifle brigade stationed in the Strugi Krasnye village of the Leningrad region by means of recruiting reservists. Military commissioner's offices of the Pskov, Leningrad and Novgorod regions and St. Petersburg recruited about 2,000 reservists, including over 400 reserve officers for the 10-day training.
