ROSTOV-ON-DON, April 4 (AVN) - The unified law-enforcement logistics support programme will be tested in the Kaliningrad region after approval by President Vladimir Putin, a high-ranking military official said here on Wednesday.
Colonel General Vladimir Isakov, deputy defence minister and rear commander, was speaking at the all-army conference of the Armed Forces rear.
According to Isakov, district and fleet commanders will be responsible for logistics support of military and paramilitary formations of all law-enforcement agencies stationed in their districts. The main maintenance principle provides for purchasing food and other materiel in the area where the troops are stationed. The North Caucasus district is already using the model and it has proven efficient, Isakov said.
The deputy minister went on to praise growing profitability of the Defence Ministry's farms. The ministry's 81 farms, of which only seven work at a loss, made RUR190m (USD6.58m) of profits last year. Their efficiency is explained by the fact that they get guaranteed defence order, and almost everything they produce is supplied to the army. Working at the full rate of operation, they meet 20 percent of the Armed Forces' food demands.
