MILITARY HELIS BOMB RIVER ICEJAM IN ALTAI TERRITORY

KRASNOYARSK, April 5 (AVN) - Military MI-24 Hind close support helicopters have bombed an icejam on the 17 km leg of the Biya river in the south-western Siberian Altai territory, a spokesman for the Emergencies Ministry's Siberian centre told the Military News Agency on Thursday.

Weapons used to break up the ice included several FAB-100 and FAB-250 bombs, 4t of explosives, and 118 120-mm mortar shells. As a result, the ice started moving in the vicinity of the Klyuchi settlement and the water level dropped by 70 cm amounting to 520 cm of the total increase of the river with the maximum critical level of 500 cm. As many as 23 dwelling houses remain flooded in the area around the settlement of Usyatskoye. Their number amounted to 83 on Wednesday.

A total of 10t of TNT was used by blasters from the Emergencies Ministry and Altaivzryvprom company to eliminate the great icejam.
