POLICE DETAIN 2 REBEL COMMANDERS, PREVENT TERRORIST ACT IN CHECHNYA

GROZNY, April 5 (AVN) - Federal law enforcers detained two prominet guerrillas in Chechnya's Nadterechny district, a spokesman for the Chechen Interior Ministry told the Military News Agency on Thursday.

The names of the detainees are kept secret, but the spokesman said they were mid-level commanders.

Policemen of the Aslanbek-Sheripovo settlement in the Shatoi district prevented a terrorist act as they found landmine components ready for assembly, including the MON-100 anti-personnel directional fragmentation mine, 800g of explosives and a prime. Following obvious scaling up of rebel activity in the area of responsibility of the Shatoi commandant's office, the military commandant held an emergency session with participation of all law enforcement bodies. A decision was taken to carry out a series of special preventive operations.
