RUSSIAN SECURITY COUNCIL SEC MEETS EU SECRETARY GENERAL

MOSCOW, April 5 (AVN) - Russian Security Council Secretary Vladimir Rushailo met with EU Secretary General Javier Solana in the Kremlin on Thursday over Russian-EU co-operation in European and international security.

Rushailo praised positive development of relations between Russia and the EU in the past year. The strategic partnership has become more meaningful in the recent months, said Rushailo. An issue of great importance was the meeting of President Vladimir Putin with the EU heads of state and government held in Stockholm in March, which emphasised the importance that both sides attached to strengthening co-operation.

According to Rushailo, of even greater importance for Russia, which is undergoing a period of transition to democracy and social-economic adaptation, is co-operation with the European Union as a key economic and political partner. Further development of mutually beneficial co-operation between Russia and EU will facilitate achievement of a common goal, i.e. establishment by joint efforts of a European civilised area of co-operation and equal security without boundaries.

Rushailo also addressed the most topical issue world public is facing nowadays, which is the ever-growing threat of international terrorism. Terrorist organisations that act throughout the world are the same. That is why we should pool efforts to combat such an extremely dangerous phenomenon as international terrorism, stressed Rushailo.
