STAVROPOL, April 12 (AVN) - An outpost of a Russian border guard picket in the southern Chechen Sharo-Argun gorge exposed a guerrilla gang at 23.25 Moscow time (1925 GMT) on Wednesday, a spokesman for the North Caucasus regional border guard department told the Military News Agency.
An artillery strike was inflicted on the guerrilla movement area, the spokesman said. Scouting parties and aviation started combing approaches to the picket the following morning.
Servicemen of the department detained two violators on Wednesday. A citizen of Azerbaijan was detained in the area controlled by the Derbent detachment for trying to leave Russia illegally. A woman citizen of Russia tried to leave for Abkhazia with an alien passport through the Adler Avtodorozhnoye checkpoint at about 12.00 Moscow time (O800 GMT). A similar attempt was made by a woman resident of Abkhazia at about 19.00 Moscow time (1500 GMT).
Border guards of the Aksaraisk Zheleznodorozhny checkpoint detained a citizen of Afghanistan while checking a Dushanbe-Moscow train. The Afghanistani was hiding in the battery compartment of the fourth car. Several hours earlier, border guards of the same checkpoint seized smuggled medicines worth over RUR100,000 (USD3,460) from a citizen of Uzbekistan riding on a Moscow-Tashkent train.
Servicemen of the Caspian detachment seized 75kg of caviar, 25 big sturgeons, 2,250m of nets and six motor boats on Wednesday. Their colleagues from the Derbent detachment detained five poachers that obtained 80kg of sturgeon and three seals illegally.
