NOVOSIBIRSK HOSTS CONFERENCE ON BORDER INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

NOVOSIBIRSK, April 17 (AVN) - President Vladimir Putin's envoy to the Siberian federal district chaired a conference on infrastructure development on the Russia-Kazakhstan border here on Tuesday, a spokesman for Drachevsky's administration told the Military News Agency.

The conference was attended by Railway Minister Nikolai Aksyonenko, head of the South-eastern regional border guard department Lieutenant General Ravil Mullayanov, Altai territory Governor Alexander Surikov, head of the Siberian customs department Grigory Shapovalov, head of the Western Siberian railway Vladimir Starostenko and head of the Novosibirsk regional border guard department Major-General Igor Kurilov.

The officials discussed, among other issues, establishment of railway checkpoints, the spokesman said. According to Drachevsky, special attention should be paid to the Lokot station which transits trains from CIS nations. The station lacks necessary inspection equipment and a considerable amount of illegal goods carried by those trains remains unexposed.

Drachevsky also said that during the session Aksyonenko was persuaded to involve his ministry in setting up checkpoints on that border sections and provide some funds for it.
