MOSCOW, April 20 (AVN) - The Russian Defence Ministry needs to create a reserve of trained candidates to replace posts in central military control bodies, Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov said on Friday.
Ivanov spoke while introducing Lieutenant-General Ivan Yefremov, new chief of the Defence Ministry main personnel department, to the ministry's leadership. According to Ivanov, the department should pay special attention to selection of officers and generals who have enough experience in occupying command posts in the troops. Only best officers capable to form the Russian officers' elite should be appointed to command regiments, brigades and divisions, the minister stressed.
"The department's current strategic task is to increase quality of appointments to military positions especially those on which the level of the Armed Forces combat and mobilisation readiness depends," Ivanov added.
