MOSCOW, April 23 (AVN) - The LAD 2001 international exhibition and conference on defence technologies for Latin America will open in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Rosoboronexport state-owned arms exporting company told the Military News Agency.
The event will take place in South America's largest exhibition centre called Riocentro. It will be held under the auspices of the Brazilian Defence and Foreign Ministries. The exhibition is to cover all armed services, but it will be intended for professionals only.
Russia will take part in the Brazilian show for the third time, the spokesman said. It is expected to exhibit both well-known products and the latest developments.
For instance, the Moscow-based Mil helicopter plant will exhibit the MI-171Sh Hip military transport helicopter, MI-35M Hind transport and combat helicopter and MI-28NE Havoc combat helicopter. The Ulan-Ude aircraft plant will put up the SU-25UBK Frogfoot trainer attack plane.
The Komsomolsk-on-Amur aircraft production enterprise will demonstrate various SU aircraft, such as SU-27SK Flanker fighter, SU-33 Flanker deck fighter, SU-30MK Flanker multirole fighters, SU-35 and SU-35UB Flankers super-manoeuvre fighters.
Moscow's R&D Institute of Steel will be represented by an ordnance dynamic protection system, Novosibirsk instrument engineering plant and Moscow-based Geofizika research and production enterprise by night-vision devices and various variants of combat aircraft modernisation that allow to operate them at night and in bad weather. These developments are especially interesting for potential customers as they can be adapted to already commissioned combat equipment.
Rosoboronexport's section will feature a variety of weapons, including Osa-AKM and Tor-M1 medium-range air defence systems, Strela, Fara-1, Credo-1E, Monitor-M, Zoopark-1, Strazh-ST, Barrier, Nebo and Nebo-SV radars, small arms, including special-purpose ones and of NATO calibre, the most up-to-date masking devices and individual protection devices.
Demonstration flights will take place at the Brazilian Air Force base in Santa Cruz, and demonstration firing at the Marambaya testing ground.
The conference will be in progress until Friday.
