MINSK, April 26 (AVN) - Russian Air Force Commander Anatoly Kornukov and a group of Air Force officers will end their visit to Belarus and leave for Moscow on Thursday.
According to Kornukov, his talks in the Belarussian capital were constructive. The parties reached mutual understanding in all discussed issues, he told the Military News Agency.
In particular, they hammered out the last disagreements over the text of the Unified Regional Air Defence System agreement. The document will be submitted to be Belarussian government in the near future. The presidents of the two countries are expected to sign it in early June after which the system will become reality, Kornukov noted.
The system's main control body will be based in Moscow, the commander went on. It will be headed by the Belarussian air defence troops commander and its command will permanently include representatives of the Russian Air Force.
The backbone of the system will be made by the Belarussian air defence troops, air defence units of Russia's Baltic Fleet and several units stationed in north-western and western Russia. The Belarussian Agat research and production enterprise is expected to provide its latest automatic control system to manage the new structure. According to Kornukov, the automatic system "surpasses Russian analogues in some parameters."
The parties also agreed to scale up co-operation in aircraft modernisation and repairs, using capacities of the Baranovichi aircraft repair plant that will receive necessary component parts from Russia.
Kornukov and his delegation will fly to Moscow at 18.00 Moscow time (1400 GMT).
