ST.PETERSBURG SHIPYARD STARTS TESTING GUARDSHIP FOR FBGS

ST.PETERSBURG, April 27 (AVN) - The local Almaz shipyard has started mooring tests of the Project 10410 guard-ship being build on an order of the Russian Federal Border Guard Service (FBGS), a spokesman for the Almaz administration said on Friday.

The vessel is expected to put up the state flag on May 28, which is celebrated as Border Guard Day in Russia, the spokesman told the Military News Agency.

The Project 10410 guard-ship (NATO designation Firefly) is intended for patrol operations in the naval economic zone. Its displacement is 375t, length 49m, speed up to 32 knots and range of operation 1,600 to 2,200 miles. An export variant of the vessel costs about USD19m.

The vessel is to be commissioned by the FBGS in the third quarter of 2001, the spokesman said. After that the ship will sail to the Caspian Sea.
