ALEISK, Altai Territory, April 27 (AVN) - Disbandment of the missile regiment of the Guard Lvov-berlkin division will be completed here on Friday, a spokesman for the division headquarters told the Military News Agency.
The disbandment takes place under the auspices of the START-2 treaty, the spokesman said. According to Lieutenant General Alexander Konarev, commander of a missile army, six missile silos have been eliminated, and the regiment's underground command post will be blasted in early May.
Konarev was speaking after the ceremony of farewell to the regiment's combat banner.
The regiment was put on combat duty in September 1967. It is the second unit of the Lvov-Berlin division disbanded in accordance with the START-2 treaty.
The division is commanded by Major-General Yuri Cherenega. Its stationing area is located in the Altai territory, south-western Siberia.
