SOLNECHNOGORSK, Moscow Region, April 27 (AVN) - A new group of cadets started a course in the local UN Military Observers Training Centre on Friday, the centre chief, Colonel Ilya Zaruba, told the Military News Agency.
The group comprises 18 Russian and nine foreign officers, including five Englishmen, two Danes, a German and a Canadian, Zaruba told the Military News Agency.
Lessons are held in English only, as English is the working language in all UN operations. That is why Russian officers willing to become UN observers are required to speak English fluently, Zaruba noted. As to foreign officers, cross-country driving is the main problem for many of them.
Having completed the month-long training course all cadets will get the international certificate of UN observer and a special badge recently approved by the Defence Ministry.
The Solnechnogorsk centre was established in 1974. It has trained over 1,000 of Soviet and Russian servicemen, as well as over 70 foreign officers whom the centre has been admitting since 1996. Over 60 graduates of the centre are working as military observers in various hot spots of the planet.
