URAL TRUCK WITH ELITE POLICEMEN TOUCHES OFF LANDMINE IN GROZNY

KHANKALA, April 28 (AVN) - An Ural truck with the Krasnoyarsk elite policemen touched off a landmine in Grozny on Friday evening, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry department for Chechnya told the Military News Agency.

As a result two policemen were killed and one heavily wounded, the spokesman said.

Rebels attacked federal positions and installations seven times in the past 24 hours. Particularly, extremists fired at the central military commandant's office from underbarrel grenade launchers at 22.30 Moscow time (1830 GMT).

A strongpoint in the Oktyabrsky district was attacked overnight to Saturday. Servicemen of the Stavropol special quick response unit who served at the strongpoint eliminated the attackers' firing point by reprisal fire. Tyumen elite policemen suppressed a rebel attack at a strongpoint in the Leninsky district.

Policemen detained nine suspected rebels and got confirmed data about four of them participating in rebel formations. During special operations servicemen seized from extremist caches and from local residents three Kalashnikov assault rifles, some 1,000 cartridges, four electric detonators, 12 grenade launcher rounds, two 82mm calibre mortar shells, 14 hand grenades, 3kg of plastic explosives and nine packs with metalware and swarf.
