MOSCOW, April 28 (AVN) - The next session of the CIS Defence Ministers Council will take place in Baku on May 18, a spokesman for the CIS military co-operation co-ordination headquarters told the Military News Agency on Saturday.
The session will be the first one to be chaired by Russia's new defence minister, Sergei Ivanov. In addition to defence ministers, it will be attended by Valery Nikolayenko, secretary general of the Collective Security Council and leaders of CIS legislative and executive bodies.
Session participants plan to discuss over 10 issues related to the strengthening of military and technical co-operation. Particularly, they will consider the situation in Central Asia and on the CIS southern borders.
The ministers are supposed to approve a number of measures on co-ordination and unification of efforts for combating international terrorism and religious extremism. They also plan to negotiate on the plan of joint operative and combat training of the CIS member nations' Armed Forces.
