TWO DAGESTANI POLICEMEN DETAINED FOR BORDERVIOLATION ATTEMPT

STAVROPOL, May 4 (AVN) - Two Dagestani policemen attempted to violate the Russia-Azerbaijan border during a technical break in the Yarag-Kazmalyar checkpoint at about 3.00 Moscow time on Friday (2300 GMT on Thursday), a spokesman for the North Caucasus regional border guard department told the Military News Agency.

The policemen were going on a service trip to Azerbaijan and had ID-cards, passports and service arms. They approached the barrier and demanded that the guard let them pass. When their demand was rejected, they tried to push the guard aside. As a result both of them were detained, the Dagestani Interior Ministry was informed on the case and investigation started.

Rustam Machigov, resident of the Benoi-Yurt village of Chechnya's Zaterechny district, was detained while trying to leave Russia for Azerbaijan through the Yarag-Kazmalyar checkpoint at 4.00 Moscow time (0000 GMT). Machidov is suspected to be a rebel due to numerous traces of wounds on his body.
