KHANKALA, May 7 (AVN) - Chechen rebels attacked federal positions and installations 137 times last week, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters in the North Caucasus said on Monday.
Sappers defused 170 explosive devices including 40 powerful landmines in the routes of military columns and civil transport, the spokesman told the Military News Agency.
Policemen carried out a mop-up operation in the villages located at the entrance to the Argun gorge. They also confiscated over 50 pieces of small arms, some 3t of ammo and 80kg of explosive substances from extremist caches. Besides, the police detained 29 suspected rebels.
