ST.PETERSBURG, May 17 (AVN) - A contact expert group of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has completed work in the Izhorskie Zavody JS, a spokesman for the company management said on Thursday.
Participants of the group's 12th session that is underway in St. Petersburg were briefed on the company's production and technical possibilities for manufacturing equipment that is intended for temporary storage of activated nuclear fuel, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. The experts were accompanied by specialists of the Atomic Energy Ministry.
The company produced 48 containers for storing activated nuclear fuel from extra strong steel last year. Each container can carry 40t of fuel. A part of them will be shipped to special proving ranges of the Urals and Far East.
According to the spokesman, the experts praised high quality of the containers. The devices withstand fall from a 10m height, they are resistant to fire and explosions. Used fuel from nuclear submarines can be stored in them for up to 50 years. Each container costs USD140,000, which is five to six times lower than the price of foreign analogues.
