FOREIGN INSPECTORS CHECKING ARMS STORAGE BASES OF BALTIC FLEET LAND GROUP

KALININGRAD, May 17 (AVN) - A group of foreign military inspectors began checking the Baltic Fleet land and coastal troops stationed in the Kaliningrad region on Thursday, a spokesman for the fleet headquarters told the Military News Agency.

The group consists of seven Danish, an American and a Norwegian officers. The check is carried out in the framework of Section 7 of the Conventional Forces in Europe (CFE) Treaty. The aim of the check is to find out how the fleet's land group implements provisions of international agreements. Foreign military inspectors are to check whether the number of the artillery and air defence systems at the storage bases correspond to the declared figure. Their work is to be completed in 48 hours.

The previous check of the group's storage bases was carried out by German military inspectors in 1998.
