DMs DISCUSSING CIS UNIFIED AIR DEFENCE SYSTEM EXPENSES FOR 2002

BAKU, May 18 (AVN) - Russian Air Force Commander Anatoly Kornukov, chairman of the air defence co-ordination committee under the CIS Defence Ministers Council, proposed on Friday the draft resolution on provision of funds for development of the CIS Unified Air Defence System in 2002, the Military News Agency learned.

Particularly, the financing will be provided for development of air defence systems in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, their modernisation in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan, and for organisation of joint events and programmes within the framework of the CIS Unified Air Defence System.

Kornukov made the proposal at the council session that is underway in Baku. He also reported on the use of funds allocaded for the air defence in 2000. Out of almost RUR70m (USD2.4m) over RUR42.3m (USD1.45m) were spent on establishment and development of the CIS Unified Air Defence System, RUR10.7m (USD367,480) on working out and implementing general programmes under the system's aegis and over RUR16m (USD549,500) on operative and combat training of the system's components.
