RUSSIAN, NATO DMs TO CONSIDER EXPANSION OF MILITARY CONTACTS JUNE 7

MOSCOW, May 21 (AVN) - Russian Defence Sergei Ivanov will take part in the session of the NATO-Russia Permanent Joint Council in Brussels on June 7, a spokesman for the Defence Ministry main international co-operation department said on Monday.

The session will be held under the auspices of the NATO defence ministers conference, the spokesman told the Military News Agency.

Ivanov is planning to discuss with his NATO colleagues further expansion of military contacts between Russia and the alliance, as well as the situation in the Balkans, especially Macedonia, the spokesman said. He did not rule out that Ivanov would demand taking additional measures to prevent Albanian extremists' attempts at escalating tensions and to stabilise the situation in general.

Besides, Ivanov is expected to hold bilateral meetings with NATO Secretary General George Robertson and defence ministers of several NATO member states.
