GROZNY, May 22 (AVN) - Servicemen of the Grozny commandant's office carried out a pinpoint mop-up operation in the city's Leninsky district on Tuesday, Grozny Commandant Colonel Vladimir Filatov told the Military News Agency.
Servicemen searched a ruined building and found a cache with two portable anti-tank grenade launchers, two Kalashnikov assault rifles, six F-1 hand grenades, three 82mm mortar shells and 1,700 cartridges. During the operation servicemen also found and defused a booby trap which extremists planted 400 metres from the government office.
Currently the servicemen are engaged in intensive clearing of the city's industrial zone, Filatov said. Special equipment is used to clear abatis, destroy ruined buildings and clear roads for dumptracks passage. After the completion of those works rebels will have no opportunity to establish masked and reinforced firing points in the area. According to Filatov, over 2,000 square kilometres of the industrial zone will be cleared by late Tuesday.
