KHANKALA, May 25 (AVN) - A federal SU-25 Frogfoot plane flew one sortie in Chechnya on Thursday, while a MI-8 Hip helicopter fitted with an IR imager exposed nine guerrilla installations later hammered by artillery and aviation, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.
MI-24 Hind close support helicopters flew three sorties to destroy a guerrilla camp in the mountainous part of the eastern Chechen Nozhai-Yurt district . Besides, they inflicted two missile strikes on small rebel gangs spotted from the air near the Novy Sharoi village. MI-24 choppers also accomplished five missions to convoy military motorcades in the Argun gorge area and in the Vedeno district.
MI-8 Hip and MI-26 Halo military-transport helicopters airlifted 58 people and about 10t of cargo in the interests of the federal troops and at the requests of the local administrations. Two An-12 Cub transports, an AN-26 Curl and an AN-72 Coaler planes delivered 178 servicemen and 7t of technical cargo to Mozdok, the main federal base in the North Caucasus, and back to central Russia.
