FED SAPPERS CLEAR OF MINES RAILWAY SPAN IN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, June 5 (AVN) - Sapper units of the Russian Railway Troops have finished clearing of mines the tracks and adjacent area of the span between the Chechen villages of Chiri-Yurt and Shali, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Tuesday.

Sappers have defused eight home-made explosive devices made on the basis of large-calibre artillery shells, as well as two antitank mines, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. At the same time, they restored 6km of destroyed tracks and accomodated two crossings.

Federal sapper groups convoyed two trains with military and civil cargo at the Mozdok-Gudermes span on Monday. They defused a landmine and a home-made explosive device with a pressure fuse on the way.
