MOSCOW, June 6 (AVN) - The Russian defence industry will undergo a large-scale restructuring in next 10 years, Minister of Economic Development and Trade German Gref said on Wednesday.
The industry will be divided into five basis sub-industries, and a specific programme will be developed for each of them, Gref told the State Duma lower house of parliament. He declined to elaborate on the content of the programmes, saying that lawmakers would be briefed on them at a special session behind closed doors.
The reason behind the restructuring is that the industry failed to adjust itself to the market economy, the minister stressed. The industry's production volume has declined several times since 1992.
In the reply to a lawmaker's question, Gref said that the state would direct its basic investments in the aircraft industry, where its share makes about 30 percent.
