STAVROPOL, June 6 (AVN) - Improvement of weather conditions has helped the North Caucasus regional border guard department scale up reconnaissance, combat and search operations that involve aircraft, a spokesman for the department said on Wednesday.
Border guards of the Veseloye-Avtodorozhnoye checkpoint detained Taisa Saitova, resident of Abkhazia's Gali village, who attempted to bring to Russia a drug substance which is supposed to be raw opium, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. Servicemen of the Verkhny Baskunchak checkpoint seized 60kg of undeclared medicines from Uzbek citizen Kholmirzoyev who was riding on a Moscow-Tashkent train. Legal action is carried out officials of the Aksarajsk customs office.
The department headquarters also said that it was the 13th attempt at exporting medicines from Russia illegally by people going from the city of Astrakhan this year. The total weight of the smuggled contraband is estimated at several tons.
Border guards of the Makhachkala territorial department confiscated from poachers in the Caspian Sea a motor boat, 200 metres of nets and over 350kg of sturgeons on Tuesday.
In general the situation in the department's area of responsibility remains quite calm, the spokesman said. No attacks at border checkpoints have been registered on the Chechen and adjacent border sections.
