KYGRYZ, TAJIK DMs SIGN PROTOCOL ON COMBATING TERRORISM

DUSHANBE, June 7 (AVN) - Kyrgyz Defence Minister Esen Topoyev ended a working visit to Tajikistan, the Military News Agency learned.

Topoyev and his Tajik counterpart Sherali Khairullayev signed a protocol that marked on-going complication of the situation in Central Asia and the tendency towards its aggravation. That is why it is necessary to take additional measures in order to improve interaction between both countries' defence ministries.

The two parties said it was important to continue full-scale co-operation in the military sphere within the framework of previously signed multilateral treaties and agreements in which Tajikistan and Kyrgyztsan participate. They urged to scale up measures against terrorism and extremism, improvement of regional security and stability in accordance with the decisions made by the CIS Collective Security Treaty.

Topoyev and Khairullayev considered expedient to meet at least once a year and when necessary and to hold consultations on elaboration of joint approaches to the military component of the regional security. Regular exchange of current data and interaction between the two nations in combating guerrilla gangs will be established, they said. The ministers also made a decision on co-ordinating the order of aircraft flights in the close-to-border area.
