PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, June 7 (AVN) - A MI-26 Halo helicopter of the North-eastern regional border guard department will deliver a MI-8 Hip helicopter of the Kamchatka Airlines to the airport in the town of Yelizovo on Friday, a spokesman for the department said.
The Hip crashed in the Koryak autonomous district near the Palanskiye Lakes. After the landing the helicopter's chassis caved in the ground and the aircraft started sliding into the lake. Crew commander Oleg Nazin attempted to lift the helicopter again, but as a result the aircraft damaged its blades and nearly sank into the lake. No casualties were registered among the crew members and passengers of the Hip, a spokesman for the Kamchatka interregional territorial department of air transport told the Agency.
Rescues lent the Halo from the North-eastern department to rescue the crashed helicopter. The Halo has already delivered the Hip on a special suspension to the Esso village of the Kamchatka region. According to data obtained by the Agency, the border guard department, whish is the only organisation in the peninsula that has MI-26 in its inventory, will earn a lot of money from the rescue operation. The helicopter's working hour costs over RUR60,000 (USD2,057).
