FED HELIS DESTROY REBEL GANG, STRONGPOINT, COMMUNICATION CENTRE IN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, June 8 (AVN) - Federal SU-25 Frogfoot attack planes flew two sorties in Chechnya on Thursday to hammer guerrilla groups and installations in hard-to-reach mountainous areas, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.

An AN-30 Clank plane and a MI-8 Hip helicopter flew one reconnaissance sortie each, the spokesman said. MI-24 Hind close support helicopters convoyed three federal motorcades and a railway train. Another group of helicopters destroyed a four-strong extremist gang, a strongpoint and a mobile communication centre mounted on a UAZ jeep.

MI-8 Hip and MI-26 Halo military transport helicopters airlifted 54 people and 5t of cargo in the interests of the federal troops and at the requests of local administrations. An IL-76 Candid and two AN-26 Curl planes delivered 310 servicemen and 14t of technical loads to Mozdok, the main federal base in the North Caucasus, and back to central Russia.
