KHANKALA, June 9 (AVN) - Two MIG-29 Fulcrum fighters have been relocated to the airfield in Mozdok, the main federal base in the North Caucasus, in order to control the air space over Chechnya, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Saturday.
SU-24 Fencer and SU-25 Frogfoot planes were grounded in Chechnya on Friday, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. MI-8 Hip helicopters flew two sorties to conduct visual reconnaissance. MI-24 Hind fire support helicopters convoyed four motorcades. During nine flights the helicopter crews monitored the situation on important motorways. Five air strikes were inflicted on small bases and rebel groups and as a result nine rebels were eliminated. MI-8 Hip and MI-26 Halo transport helicopters airlifted 46 people and 15t of cargo in the interests of the federal group and at the requests of the local administrations.
An AN-12 Cub and two AN-26 Curl transport planes delivered 127 servicemen and 5t of technical cargo to Mozdok and back to central Russia.
