REBELS ATTACK POLICE UNITS 23 TIMES IN CHECHNYA TUESDAY

KHANKALA, June 13 (AVN) - Chechen rebels staged one blast and attacked police units and Interior Ministry troops formations 23 times on Tuesday, a spokesman for the ministry's department for Chechnya told the Military News Agency.

No casualties were registered but one policeman was injured, the spokesman said.

Policemen carried out 11 search and preventive operations in Chechnya on Tuesday, the spokesman said. They checked 16,866 people and 8,875 vehicles and registered 522 administrative offences.

The police seized three grenade launchers, a carbine, a pistol, a hunting rifle, two sawn-off rifles, four artillery and six mortar shells, 24 hand grenades, 31 various grenade launcher rounds, 11,544 small-arms cartridges and 0.2kg of plastic explosives. Besides, six illegal oil refineries were eliminated.
