KHANKALA, June 18 (AVN) - A patrol of the Interior Ministry troops found two rebels during a passport regime control operation in Chechnya's Nizhniye Kurchali village on Monday, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.
The rebels tried to escape and opened fire at the servicemen, but were killed during a quick shootout, the spokesman said.
Federals detained 14 suspected guerrillas and found arms caches with large amount of arms and ammo on the outskirts of the villlage. The caches also containes 1,500 leaflets with threats to Chechen residents who cooperate with federals.
Three rebels were blocked in a residential house basement during a similar operation in the Staraya Sunzha village. The extremists refused to lay down arms and were eliminated. Near the house servicemen found a cache where rebels stocked ready-to-explode landmines. The cache contained nine explosive devices, 15kg of TNT and 15 rounds to portable antitank grenade launcher.
