KALININGRAD REGION VILLAGES INSIST ON LIFTING ACCESS RESTRICTIONS

KALININGRAD, June 18 (AVN) - Access restrictions that are in force in Russia's westernmost enclave of Kaliningrad impede social and economic development of its municipal bodies, chiefs of administrations in close-to-border border villages told Kaliningrad Region Governor Vladimir Yegorov.

The chiefs proposed to discuss the purposeness of access restrictions which impede foreigners from visiting those villages, a spokesman for the regional administration told the Military News Agency. The proposal was considered at an administration session attended by leaders of local governing bodies, Baltic Fleet, Kaliningrad regional border guard department, regional departments of the Federal Security Service (FSB) and Interior Ministry.

The session decided to form a working commission, which is to study the chiefs' proposal of lifting restrictions in each village. The commission's work will be taken into account when a decision on excluding the locality from the restricted access list. This decision will be made on the regional level if the locality was added to the list by regional authorities or on the level of the Russian government if the locality was added by higher authorities.
