FED HELIS DESTROY REBEL CAMP, TWO GANGS NEAR CHECHNYA'S ITUM-KALE

KHANKALA, June 20 (AVN) - Federal army aviation helicopters conducted aerial reconnaissance, convoyed military and civil motorcades and hammered targets earlier exposed by reconnaissance in Chechnya on Tuesday, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.

MI-8 Hip helicopters took off twice to survey the outskirts of the Shatoi village, the spokesman said. MI-24 Hind close support helicopters destroyed a guerrilla base and two illegal oil refineries in the south-eastern Chechen Vedeno district. Another group of choppers inflicted several strikes on two extremist groups moving to a summer camp near the Itum-Kale village. The camp was destroyed and up to six rebels were killed.

MI-8 Hip and MI-26 Halo military transport helicopters airlifted 56 people and over 20t of cargo in the interests of the federal forces and at the requests of the local administrations.
