ST.PETERSBURG ENTERPRISE PRODUCES NEW GEO-3 MINE-DETECTOR

ST.PETERSBURG, June 20 (AVN) - The Radioavionika JSO completed research and tests related to development of the experimental variant of the Geo-3 mine-detector, Yevgeny Chernyshev, the company's director general and constructor general, told the Military News Agency on Wednesday.

The new mine-detector is fitted with the radar detector of vertical soil sounding. Its work is based on new principles.

The research and tests were supported by the research-technical committee of the engineering troops commander's administration. The device was tested in engineering units and formations, including those participating in the Chechnya campaign. As a result of the tests the 15th central R&D engineering institute of the Russian Defence Ministry made a positive conclusion on the mine-detector.

The main peculiarity of Geo-3 is that it is capable to find mines without metal parts. Moreover, probing signals do not cause the initiation of electronic fuses. The mine-detector's data base, conditions and types of searched objects can be enhanced. The analysis of service tests proves that the mine-detector surpacces capacities of foreign analogues.

According to Chernyshev, Radioavionika, the committee and the institute are developing similar mine-detectors in the knapsack, automobile and helicopter variants.
