EMERGENCIES MINISTRY TO HOLD CONFERENCE ON DISASTER FORECASTING JUNE 26-27

MOSCOW, June 21 (AVN) - A research-practical conference devoted to forecasting of emergencies and their sources organised by the Russian Emergencies Ministry will be held in Moscow on June 26 and 27, First Deputy Emergencies Minister Yuri Vorobyov said on Thursday.

The conference involves officials from the Ministries of Emergencies, Atomic Energy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Interior Affairs, State Construction Committee, State Standard Committee, State Hydrometeorological Centre, Russian Aviation and Space Agency, Aircraft Forest Protection Service, Federal Earthquake Forecasting Centre, as well as leading specialists of the Russian Academy of Sciences, earth physics, oceanographic and fuel and gas institutes, Vorobyov told the Military News Agency.

"The tendency towards escalation of risk of global accidents and catastrophes has already emerged. Primarily we plan to discuss the problems of monitoring and forecasting natural and man-made disasters as well as information and analytical provision of the activities of the interdepartmental commission and operational groups if federal-level emergencies occur," Vorobyov added.

During the conference officials plan to assess possibilities of large oil spills in the northern part of the Caspian Sea, seismic damage to nuclear power plants and level of natural and manmade danger in Yakutia.
