MOSCOW, June 26 (AVN) - A regiment-level tactical exercise with live firing that is to be carried out by the 1st guard motorised rifle regiment of the 2nd guard Taman motorised rifle division will be postponed to July 5 to 6, a spokesman for the Moscow military district headquarters told the Military News Agency on Tuesday.
Originally the training was supposed to be held this week but was delayed due to changes in the term of the training session of units and separate formations commanders. The session will be held in the stationing area of the Taman division in the Moscow region on July 2 to 7. Its main aim is to brief commanders of motorised rifle and tank divisions and brigades on methods of organising combat training in the summer training period. For that purpose the commanders will be shown a regiment-level tactical exercise with live firing. The session participants will evaluate the active stage of the training, which envisage the regiment's offensive, switch to the defensive and elimination of the erupting enemy.
According to the spokesman, the scale of the exercise will be reduced taking into account limited capabilities of the Taman division's proving range. The training will involve all units of the regiment though the offensive with live firing will be carried out only by a reinforced motorised rifle battalion.
The regiment is fully manned. It took part in the Chechnya campaign from January to May 2000.
