DUSHANBE, July 5 (AVN) - Russian border guards prevented drug dealers' attempt to transport a huge batch of drugs across the Tajikistan-Afghanistan frontier overnight to Thursday, a spokesman for the Russian border guard group in Tajikistan told the Military News Agency.
Shortly before dawn two men approached the border line from Afghanistan and two others from Tajikistan in the area controlled by the Moscow detachment, the spokesman said. The violators did not react to warning shouts and shots, so border guard opened fire for effect. One of those approaching the border from Afghanistan was killed and the rest escaped making use of darkness. Border guards found seven packs of heroin on the site. The total weight of the drug batch is not yet clear.
Russian border guards have seized over 1.4t of drugs from smugglers and violators on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan frontier this year.
