DEPUTY SC SECRETARY VISITS WESTERN RUSSIA, MEETS BALTIC FLEET CHIEF

KALININGRAD, July 5 (AVN) - A Russian Security Council session which is to discuss the Kaliningrad region development prospects is planned for late July, a spokesman for the region administration told the Military News Agency on Thursday.

The Council's deputy secretary Vladimir Potapov arrived in the region on Wednesday as the head of a consultative group and is planning to draft corresponding documents for the forthcoming session. Potapov will also analyse the situation in the region, implementation of the federal purpose-oriented programme on development of the exclusive economic zone in the region for 1998 to 2005, as well as legal, economic, foreign policy, organisation and information measures which are being taken in the interests of the geopolitically important region.

Potapov and his group are working in the headquarters and units of the Baltic Fleet on Thursday. He will meet fleet commander Vice Admiral Vladimir Valuyev and visit a testing ground of the fleet's coastal group where a company-level tactical exercise with live firing is to take place.
