BORDER GUARDS SPOT REBEL GROUP IN CHECHEN MOUNTAINS

STAVROPOL, July 5 (AVN) - A scouting party of the Itum-Kale border guard detachment found a night camp place of a small suspected rebel group in a gorge on Wednesday, a spokesman for the North Caucasus regional border guard department told the Military News Agency.

The nearby territory is being searched with the help of aircraft, the spokesman said.

Border guards of the Sochi detachment detained on Wednesday Roman Popov, resident of the Kirov region, who attempted to illegally enter Russia from Abkhazia. He claimed that he had gone to Abkhazia to earn money and decided to cross the border illegally because of having no passport. Popov was handed to local police department for further investigation.

Gela Kamkrelidze and Nikoloz Kolosoniya, residents of Georgia's Kvareli district, as well as their guide Imanali Imanaliyev, resident of Dagestan's Bezhta village, were detained by border guards of the Khunzakh detachment while crossing the border from Georgia to Russia. The three men were going to visit their relatives.

Border guards of the Makhachkala territorial department and officers of the state naval inspection detained seven poachers and confiscated from them four motor boats, over 1km of nets and almost 300kg of illegally caught fish, the spokesman added. Border guard units of the Caspian detachment detained six poachers with four motor boats, 650 metres of nets and 275kg of fish.
