NIZHNY TAGIL, Sverdlovsk Region, July 9 (AVN) - The Russian Defence Expo (RUDEX) 2001 show of technical defence and protection means ended at the proving range of the Nizhny Tagil metals testing institute ended on Sunday and its results were summed up on Monday, Valery Rudenko, director general of the institute and a member of the show's organisers committee, told the Military News Agency.
The show involved 186 enterprises from 22 Russian regions that demonstrated 2,046 exhibits at open-air and roofed benches. Officials from 14 countries attended the show among the total of 36,000 visitors.
The show's closing ceremony involved Ural military district commander Colonel General Alexander Baranov, Sverdlovsk Region Minister of Industry Semyon Barkov, chairman of the organisers committee Nikolai Danilov and Nizhny Tagil Mayor Nikolai Didenko.
The local Uralvagonzavod state-owned enterprise, Nizhny Tagil metal works, Novouralsk-based Ural automobile engine plant, local Uralkreomash JS and Vysokogorsk mechanical plant, Ural transport machine-building plant, several other defence industry enterprises were awarded honorary diplomas and bannerettes for huge input in the development of Russia's military power and defence cacities as well as for active participation in the show.
Several leaders of defence industry enterprises and military specialists were awarded honorary badges of the International Demidov Fund. Among them are Colonel General Sergei Mayev, chief of the Defence Ministry main ordnance department, Uralvagonzavod Director General Nikolai Malykh, Vladimir Domnin, constructor general of the Ural transport machine-building design bureau, and Uralvagonzavod Deputy Director General Valentin Snegirev.
