MOSCOW, July 12 (AVN) - The coast surveillance service of the Russian Navy will take part in establishment of the regional safe navigation system in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland, a spokesman for the Navy radio-technical department said on Thursday.
The Navy Staff has drafted required documents on the matter and submitted them for consideration of all interested parties, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. Interaction and information exchange between Navy surveillance and communication posts in the area and soon-to-be-deployed civil coastal radars is to be established by the end of the year. The data on navigation security system obtained by the Navy will be included in the unified database system.
The spokesman stressed that the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland was among the most dangerous areas of the Baltic Sea as far as navigation is concerned. The necessity to set up a unified regional security system is caused by establishment of new Russian sea ports in the area and growing intensity of navigation. In particular, the number of oil tankers moving in the gulf is increasing considerably, and security of those vessels requires special control.
