RUSSIAN SHIPYARD TO PRODUCE WATER FLOOD MODULES FOR SAKHALIN-2 PROJECT

KOMSOMOLSK-ON-AMUR, July 16 (AVN) - The local shipyard which earlier produced nuclear submarines signed a contract with the US Sakhalin Energy company on participation in the Sakhalin-2 project, a spokesman for the shipyard administration said on Monday.

The project envisages distribution of investments totalling USD8.6m until 2007, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. The value of the contract is USD6m and it envisages construction of water flood modules for the Molikpak oil platform built on the Sakhalin shelf.

As many as 32 Russian and foreign companies participated in the tender on the modules production. The Komsomolsk-on-Amur shipyard won because it had successfully implemented the order on the production of steel foundation for the same platform. The module will be fully completed by mid-June 2002.

The shipyard also signed the contract with the Exxon company of the USA on the production of naval and coastal installations and modernisation of the oil platform in the framework of the Sakhalin-1 project.

According to the spokesman, the contract's implementation will enable to launch complex modernisation of the shipyard's production facilities. The enterprise plans to spend almost USD100m for that purpose. The feasibility study of the modernisation is nearing completion and the the first stage of the works will start in late July to early August.
